TrueNAS 26 introduces an annual release cadence with simplified version numbering, along with new Enterprise container capabilities, protocol improvements, and OpenZFS 2.4 integration.

==**Breaking Changes:** The REST API is removed in TrueNAS 26. Migrate all integrations to the WebSocket API before upgrading.==

- **New Features:**
  - LXC containers now supported in Enterprise High Availability (HA) configurations with controller failover.
  - GPU passthrough support added for LXC containers (NVIDIA and other supported GPUs).
  - Multi-Path I/O (MPIO) support added for Fibre Channel connections.
  - SMB3 unix extensions enabled automatically for shares using the Multi-Protocol purpose.
  - Option to de-register a system from TrueNAS Connect added to the TrueNAS Connect configuration screen.
  - BRT (Block Reference Table) prefetch support added for faster pool imports on systems using block cloning.
- **Improvements:** OpenZFS 2.4 integration with updated pool/vdev UI, Samba 4.23, improved Storage Dashboard degraded pool reporting, and mobile usability improvements.
- **Critical Bug Fixes:** Resolved update failures that could set a broken boot environment or leave apps non-functional; fixed dataset loading and available space calculation issues; fixed NFS/SMB share management errors; fixed VLAN DHCP boot delays; fixed VM device passthrough; resolved UI regressions from an Angular framework upgrade.
